Reinis Aigars
AIGARS REINIS is Director of Music for the Rīga Dom and the Cathedral Organist, as well as a professional choral and Early Music ensemble singer. He has been described as “one of Latvia’s most artistically interesting organists” (musicologist and critic Orests Silabriedis). For many years he was a chorister and soloist with the Latvian Radio Choir, and a member of the Schola Cantorum Rīga and Ars Antiqua Rīga vocal ensembles. He has also conducted the Bank of Latvia Choir. He has taken part in international organ competitions in Lahti, Finland and Erfurt in Germany. For more than 10 years Aigars was Organist at St Anne’s Church in Jelgava, and from 2013-9 at the Old Church of St. Gertrude in Rīga. Collaborative ventures have included work with professional groups such as Sinfonia Concertante, The State Academic Choir “Latvija”, Ave Sol chamberchoir; and conductors such as Māris Sirmais, Sigvards Kļava, Guntis Kuzma and soloists Ēriks Kiršfelds, Marta Spārniņa, Elīna Endzele, Aigars Raumanis, Rogerio Gonsalves and others.
His studies include a successfully completed Masters course in Organ Performance under Professor Tālivaldis Deksnis, and further studies with Professor Ludger Lohmann (Germany), Hans-Ola Ericsson and Hans Hellsten (Sweden), and at the International Organ Academy in Uppsala. He received the Latvian Great Music Prize for Ensemble Work in 2019.
