Winter Chamber Music at the 13th-Century Chapter Hall / Händel and Vasks. Anniversary year
Aigars Reinis (positive), Berči quartet - Gunārs Mūrnieks (violin),
Diāna Reimane (violin), Elīna Čipāne (viola), Klāvs Jankevics (cello)
Programme: G. F. Händel, P. Vasks
The programme honours two composers celebrating anniversaries in 2026—Georg Friedrich Handel, the architect of Baroque’s majestic light, and Pēteris Vasks, the Latvian messenger of spiritual strength and love. Vasks’ Fifth String Quartet, in the composer’s own words, speaks of our inner world, presence, and love—“a quiet and peaceful singing, a loving gaze upon a world tormented by pain and contradictions.” Alongside it will sound the contemplative White Landscape, with its transparent winter calm and sense of new beginnings wrapped in endless whiteness.
In Handel’s organ concertos, the composer allows the organ to step out of cathedral vaults with virtuoso flair, transforming it into an almost operatic character glowing in a brilliantly baroque palette of colours.
Winter Chamber Music at the 13th-Century Chapter Hall / Do you hear it speak?
Early music ensemble ‘‘Concerto Riga’’ – Laura Šarova (baroque violin), Marianna Puriņa (baroque violin), Māra Botmane (baroque cello), Gertrūda Krauksta (organ positive)
Programme: A. Corelli
The early music ensemble Concerto Riga will perform a programme dedicated to Arcangelo Corelli and his Sonate da chiesa, a genre that reveals the clarity of his musical thinking and expressive power.
The programme includes seven church sonatas, offering listeners Corelli’s signature musical language: harmonies rich in nuance, compelling melodies, and virtuoso energy. The title “Do You Hear How It Speaks?” echoes Corelli’s own words—“Non udite la parlare?”—highlighting music as a living, speaking language that invites a personal and inspiring dialogue.
February
Winter Chamber Music at the 13th-Century Chapter Hall / Vivaldi. Italy. A Journey to the Moment
Lāsma Meldere-Šestakova (baroque violin), Anda Eglīte (kokle), Dace Priedīte (kokle), Artūrs Noviks (accordion)
Programme: M. Uccellini, A. Steffani, A. Caldara, L. Vinci, P. Locatelli, A. Vivaldi
The concert features music by Antonio Vivaldi and other Italian composers in new instrumental arrangements. The programme offers an unusual sonic experience: baroque lute and mandolin repertoire interpreted on kokles, while the accordion expands the timbral palette of Baroque music, at times imitating the organ. Alongside this, the baroque violin and the ensemble’s shared sound will reveal the nearly limitless interpretative possibilities of Baroque music.

Indriķis Veitners (clarinet), Andris Grunte (double bass), Pranas Kentra (guitar/ Lietuva), Ēriks Miezis (percussion)
Programme: I. Veitners, U. Marhilevičs, G. Rozenbergs, Z. Liepiņš, D. Pulauskas, U. Naissoo, L. Danielsson
''The Third Stream Quartet'' performs original compositions as well as arrangements of works from various periods and styles. Their focus lies on “cool jazz” and “third stream”, and therefore the ensemble intentionally omits drums to achieve a more chamber-like sound. The term third stream refers to the fusion of jazz and classical music—an approach that characterises their programmes. The concert will feature works by Gunārs Rozenbergs, Zigmars Liepiņš, Uldis Marhilevičs, Indriķis Veitners, and other composers.
