Rihards Dubra. Organ music. CD launch concert

Organists Ilze Reine, Aigars Reinis

Programme: Organ music by Rihards Dubra

This double album of Dubra’s organ music, performed by Ilze and Aigars Reinis, was recorded in the composer’s anniversary year, collecting everything he has composed for organ, thus far.

“Organs have always been important to me, even when not considering my childhood during the occupation, my grandparents’ involvement with the church, even then, allowed me the opportunity to feel and love the magical sound of this instrument. And that has slowly developed... In the 1990s, in an unexpected way, I became an organist, and then I felt this closeness even more. Then began my first attempts to compose for this instrument, and this continues to this day, and, in a surprising way, it reveals things that I would have been doubtful about had I not had this relationship with the organ, for example, how fantastic it is to write fugues... I believe that will continue.”

Winter chamber music. MARIALES. Māra's songs. SABIA Ensemble

SABIA Ensemble: Liene Skrebinska (voice, kokle), Ieva Nīmane (pipes, kokle), Mārtiņš Miļevskis (percussion), Guntars Prānis (voice, hurdy-gurdy)

The concert "Mariales" will combine traditional music and medieval church songs, twisting ancient melodies into a modern sound.

The combination of medieval Marian songs and Latvian traditional music in one concert programme has brought together musicians who are close to both these musical movements and have made them an integral part of their concert life.

Improvisation also plays an important role in the concert programme and the contribution of each member of the ensemble to the creation of a new soundscape in this repertoire is invaluable. The Virgin Mary and Māra - both merge into one image in the medieval Mary's Praise Songs and in our folk musical heritage.

Winter chamber music. Dolcissimi sospiri. DUO POETICO

Gunta Smirnova (soprano)

Lorenzo Abate (theorbo)

Programme: H. Purcell, M. P. de Montéclair, H. I. Biber,  A. Grandi, G. Bononcini, C. Monteverdi,  G. F. Händel, A. Vivaldi

Gunta Smirnova is known as an outstanding interpreter of Baroque music, collaborating with such masters of early music as René Jacobs, Andrea Marcon and Ton Koppmann. Gunta Smirnova graduated from the Academy of Early Music in Basel, and has also honed her vocal skills at the Zurich University of the Arts. She has appeared at the Opertheater Zurich and Basel, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Cologne Philharmonic, the Bremen Music Festival, the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona and is a regular guest at Leipzig's Thomas Church.

Rafael Ter-Sahakjan is a versatile musician who studied violin at the Music Academies of Lausanne and Lucerne in Switzerland. He has performed at music festivals in Switzerland, Italy and Germany and has given several masterclasses. He regularly performs with various Swiss orchestras and chamber music ensembles and has given many premieres of new works.
The duo of Gunta Smirnova and Rafael Ter-Sahakian will be joined on this programme by Lorenzo Abate, one of the most sought-after Italian theorists of the new generation, who has worked with such early music specialists as Andrea Marcon, Gabriel Garrido, Morris Steger, the ensembles Voces Suaves, La Chimera, and the orchestras La Cetra, AKAMUS and the Venice Baroque Orchestra.

In the concert "Dolcissimi sospiri" or "Gentle Sighs", the story of a loving soul will take the audience through the language of sound art from different styles and countries, showing the French, English and Italian Baroque, where sacred and secular music collide. The programme will be permeated by moving lamentations, wistful dissonances and triumphant coloratura strings.

All About Jazz

Mindaugas Stumbras is a Lithuanian guitarist and composer based in Vilnius, Lithuania. His music is very dynamic, colourful and versatile. Beautiful and picturesque compositions are influenced by the broad European jazz scene, American jazz tradition, Lithuanian folk music and Scandinavian improvisational music scene. Exciting and emotional melodies represent a mature and soft northern sound which sometimes can be interrupted by massive bursts of power and dissonance. Melancholic and nostalgic melodies merged with meditative flow of the harmony create a warm atmosphere that shapes the way this music sounds.
