In the paradise of the moon. Oriental moods
Aigars Raumanis (saxophone)
Aigars Reinis (organ)
Programme: C. Debussy, F. Say, K. Tanaka, T. Yoshimatsu
Concert MONTH IN PARADISE. ORIENTAL SOUNDS will feature a duo of musicians - saxophonist Aigars Raumanis and Riga Cathedral organist Aigars Reinis, who have been performing together for more than 10 years. The duo's original concert programmes always delight the audience with energetic interplay and evocative findings from the works of various composers. Both artists are laureates of the Latvian Music Prize.
The programme will be a musical journey to the Eastern world and its landscapes, alternating poetic, mysterious and rhythmically charged moods. Turkish composer Fazil Say's virtuosic Suite for saxophone is strongly influenced by Turkish music, dance and folklore, while Karen Tanaka's Night Bird for saxophone and electronics takes you into the surreal atmosphere of night birds. Japanese Takashi Yoshimatsu's vibrant Fuzzy Bird Sonata is a cornerstone of the contemporary saxophone repertoire, while French composer Jean Alain's Gardens of Air invites to an elegiac flight of the imagination. The French impressionist and oriental colour will be revealed in Claude Debussy's Rhapsody for Saxophone.
