Programme: G. F. Händel, P. Vasks
The programme honours two composers celebrating anniversaries in 2026—Georg Friedrich Handel, the architect of Baroque’s majestic light, and Pēteris Vasks, the Latvian messenger of spiritual strength and love. Vasks’ Fifth String Quartet, in the composer’s own words, speaks of our inner world, presence, and love—“a quiet and peaceful singing, a loving gaze upon a world tormented by pain and contradictions.” Alongside it will sound the contemplative White Landscape, with its transparent winter calm and sense of new beginnings wrapped in endless whiteness.
In Handel’s organ concertos, the composer allows the organ to step out of cathedral vaults with virtuoso flair, transforming it into an almost operatic character glowing in a brilliantly baroque palette of colours.
