At the Good Friday concert on April 3, Riga Cathedral’s music director and cathedral organist Aigars Reinis will perform, addressing themes of eternity and spiritual renewal through the musical legacy of Bach and Latvian composers. At the center of the program will be Pēteris Vasks’ expansive Cantus ad pacem — a magnificent musical fresco and an embodiment of beauty in the face of darkness. The program will also include Bach’s chorale preludes, the grand Fantasy and Fugue in G minor, BWV 542, Zemzaris’ Mežezers (“Forest Lake”), as well as Kalējs’ dramatic Stations of the Cross narrative Via dolorosa.
