“Christmas Prelude” - a beautiful tradition and a special celebration. On 12 December, Riga Cathedral will host one of the most anticipated musical events of the winter season - Inese Galante’s “Christmas Prelude”. Over the years, this festive evening has become an integral part of the run-up to Christmas for Riga residents and visitors alike, bringing audiences beloved music and performances by renowned artists in a beautiful and festive atmosphere. The cathedral’s unique lighting design adds to the special ambience, transforming the majestic interior into a magical, ever-changing landscape of light throughout the concert.
As Christmas approaches, the grand vaults of Riga Cathedral will once again bring together outstanding Latvian musicians and young performers, offering audiences an evening filled with light, beauty and inspiration. The concert will feature countertenor and Baroque music interpreter Sergejs Jēgers, composer and organist Aivars Kalējs, tenor Artjoms Safronovs (soloist of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet), soprano Elizabete Laura Porgante, pianist Andrejs Osokins, pianist Aleksandrs Kalējs, young virtuoso pianist Gustavs Kalējs, the boys’ choir of Jāzeps Mediņš Riga 1st Music School under the direction of conductor Romāns Vanags and, of course, Inese Galante herself. Young talents will also take the stage alongside established artists – the laureates of the “Inese Galante Talents” competition, for whom the opportunity to perform before a large audience has become an important part of their professional journey.
