The early music ensemble BACH D' AMOUR invites you to an evening of exquisite Baroque music, featuring music from cantatas by Baroque greats and contemporaries Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann. The friendship between Bach and Telemann is one of the most interesting pages in music history - Telemann was even Bach's second-choice godfather to his son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. Although the two composers had different musical styles, they shared a common goal: to create music that inspires and uplifts the listener beyond the everyday. In contrast to Bach, Telemann was the most popular German composer of his time, with a record number of compositions, producing naturally beautiful melodies, bold harmonies, energetic rhythms and filigree instrumentation. Bach's sacred work, on the other hand, can rightly be regarded as the fullest revelation of God's presence in music that touches eternity. The concert will also feature instrumental opuses by Georg Friedrich Telemann's grandson, German Enlightenment composer Georg Michael Telemann - he was the music director of Riga City Churches and organist of Riga Cathedral at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.
