BACH and the Golden Baroque. A Tribute to the New Contius Baroque Organ at Riga Cathedral. BACH. Northern Germany

Lasma Meldere-Sestakova (baroqe violin)

Aigars Reinis (organ)

Programme: J. S. Bach, D. Buxtehude, G. Böhm

Three outstanding masters meet in the world of North German Baroque music – Dieterich Buxtehude, Georg Böhm, and Johann Sebastian Bach. The concert features Buxtehude’s virtuosic and improvisatory organ works, Böhm’s refined chorale preludes, and Bach’s diverse oeuvre – from deeply meditative chorale preludes to pastoral organ music and works for violin. The creative connection between these composers reveals an essential tradition of North German Baroque music: Bach’s art would be unimaginable without the influence of Buxtehude and Böhm. Particularly symbolic is the fact that in 1705, the young Bach walked more than 400 kilometres to Lübeck to hear Buxtehude perform and learn from the celebrated master.
